3 Fun Socially Distant Birthday Party Ideas for Kids

It’s almost been a year since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the globe and instantly changed our lives. Even where it’s allowed, parents are still hesitant about the idea of having social gatherings to celebrate kids’ birthdays. While some have decided to skip it altogether, others have taken the plunge of organizing a socially distant birthday party.

As Graziella Simonetti, a parenting coach on Long Island, put it, “Celebrating is injecting something joyful into a time that is tough.” “We’re so inundated with negative news, a birthday is something positive to celebrate”, she adds.

If you’re planning a party, here are three fun socially distant birthday party ideas for kids that have proven to be safe while being entertaining and fun. In addition, we highly advise you to follow your local government safety guidelines to ensure your safety and that of your guests.

1. Host a Party in a park

For the most part, if you follow your local government safety guidelines, it’s still possible to host a socially distant party in a park! In the winter months, why not organize some normal wintertime activities? For example, a sledding party! Each kid must bring their own sled or tube and will have to go down the hill on their own. Remaining 2 meters apart, kids can chat with their friends while waiting for their turn!

Another idea is to organize a scavenger hunt! Yes, even in winter. Each kid gets their own set of clues and once they’ve found their treasure, they meet up at a set location in the park and celebrate in a socially distant way with their friends!

Since there’s no use fighting the current situation, we might as well embrace it and discover new ways to celebrate together. Virtual parties are the new normal! At My Studio Party, we’ve developed 5 different, awesome virtual parties: Virtual Dance Party, Virtual Arts and Crafts Party, Virtual Minecraft Party, Virtual Ballet Party and Virtual Slime Party. One of our main goals during these parties is to try to make the birthday boy or girl feel special. We take the time to sing happy birthday with all the guests while parents bring out the cake or cupcakes! What’s more, all parties are hosted on Zoom through a secure password locked link and the parties are even more affordable than our in-person parties!

3. Seasonal activities

When it gets a little warmer out, another idea could be to rent and ask a food truck to park in an easily accessible location for all guests. One at a time, party goers order some delicious food and eat it at a safe distance with friends. Hint, this one is also really enjoyable for parents!

You can also take advantage of drive-in theatres. This socially distant activity has really been making a comeback since the beginning of Covid. Otherwise, if you have a projector, you can set up a backyard movie with cushions and towels set two meters apart. Ask everyone to bring their own snacks and then just relax and enjoy the movie.

Conclusion

Although it would be great to have in-person parties, for the moment, we have to be creative and do things a little differently. Whether it’s planning some party activities in a park or celebrating virtually, it’s possible to create a fun and memorable experience for your kid! Do you know of any other Covid-safe activities that we haven’t mentioned? Put them in the comments section or on our Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter pages, we’d love to read how you’ve been getting creative!
